Disinfection

Disinfection

After municipal wastewater has been processed to remove the biological and chemical components associated with environmental damage, this very nearly clear water still has to be disinfected in order to render it safe for release into the environment. There are myriad approaches to meet this need, ranging from ultraviolet light to liquid chemicals such as chlorine and hydrogen peroxide, to the application of disinfecting gases such as chlorine dioxide and ozone.

Ozone

Ozone has many advantages when compared to other disinfection technologies. It is far less likely to result in the formation of harmful disinfection byproducts, and is 50% more powerful than chlorine-based disinfectants.
